The Government Polytechnic, Fatehpur was established in the year 1983-84. It is situated at G.T. Road near Nauwa bagh on Kanpur-Allahabad national highway-2. The institute is well connected by road and railways. The distance of institute by road from Kanpur city is 73 kms.and from the Allahabad city 122 Kms. Travel can also be made by the train too. The Fatehpur railway station is situated between Kanpur and Allahabad on New Delhi-Howrah route. The distance of the institute from railway station is about 8 Kms. and from bus stand is about 6 Kms.

The institute was established with two disciplines i.e. 3 Years diploma in Civil Engineering and Electronics Engineering (specialization in Micro Electronics ). The diploma in Mechanical Engineering (specialization in Production Engg.) was started in the year 1994.

The institute is spread on a green lush's area of 18.5 acres. The institute has an academic block, class rooms, drawing halls, a workshop, NCC block, faculty and staff accommodation, a hostel building for the 90 students is available in the institute campus. Various labs for Civil, Electronics and Mechanical Engg. were also established.

The institute is affiliated from the Board of Technical Education, U.P., Lucknow and all running courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
